Fundamentals

Both here in my blog and in my treatment room, I spend a lot of time talking about what I consider to be the four most fundamental things needed to obtain and sustain mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness:  self-talk, SMART goals, balance, and perseverance.  These four things are so totally intertwined on the journey to success that it’s essential to view them all as integral and intimately connected parts of YOUR puzzle.

Self-talk – have you ever seen someone reach their goal if they think that they are worthless?  Have you ever seen someone reach their goal if all they do is tell themselves that they are a failure?  Or that they aren’t worth it?  Or that they are unlovable?  I’m guessing your answer is a resounding no.  Because if someone tells themselves those things, it is simply not possible to reach a target.

SMART goals – have you ever seen someone reach their goal if they set a target that is totally unrealistic?  Have you ever seen someone reach their goal if they set a target that is not specific?  Or not measurable?  Or not attainable?  Or not timely?  Again, I’m guessing your answer is another resounding no.  Because if someone sets a goal that is not Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, or Timely, they simply will.  Not.  Succeed.

Balance – have you ever seen someone reach sustainable health and wellness if they don’t practice balance?  Have you ever seen someone reach sustainable health and wellness if they only focus on one area of their life?  One thing?  One person?  Of course not!  Because balance is essential.  We need to work all the spokes (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) to have the wheel that is our essence roll correctly.  If only one spoke is being worked, the wheel will be wonky.  And who wants a wonky wheel.

Perserverance – have you ever seen someone reach health or wellness, or any goal for that matter if they stop?  Have you ever seen someone reach health or wellness or any goal if they quit?  Or give up?  NO WAY!  You simply cannot get to the target if you lay down.  When we teach someone how to get to the top of a warped wall, the two most important pieces are to keep your eyes on the top and to never stop moving your feet.  And the one guarantee that I can make to you is that if you stop trying, you simply will.  Not.  Succeed.

Ok, so now what happens if you determine your wants and needs for each of your spokes?  If you diligently and passionately work on ALL of them?  If you set SMART goals for each, believe in yourself and your ability to reach the target, and never, ever, ever stop moving your feet?  Do you think you’d fail or that you’d succeed?

Spoiler alert – YOU WILL SUCCEED.  Every.  Single.  Time.  And you, yes YOU deserve to succeed.  You deserve to say kind, loving, positive things to yourself and about yourself.  You deserve to reach your goals with balance so that all spokes are aligned and your wheel rolls.  You deserve to persevere in your pursuit.  Because you deserve to live the life you have always wanted.

Remember, the joy is in the journey, not the destination.  And if you live your life like that, you will always be able to find happiness, peace, and gratitude.

So stay focused, stay positive, and mine your light!

Ps.  I believe in you, yes YOU!
